Belinda | Indianapolis Portrait Photographer

Belinda and I have been friends since 5th grade. Well, that's not entirely true. What I should say is...we've known each other since 5th grade. We actually were a little....ehh....at odds with each other at first. But, that was then and this is now! :) We try to get together whenever I am in Wisconsin visiting my family and this past weekend was no exception.

I forced -- I mean, asked -- her if she would be interested in doing a photo shoot, because she's so cute and has great fashion! She complied, and even though my camera started acting up during our shoot, I think we still got some great images.

I Heart (Dogwood?) Trees

I've lived in Indiana for 5 1/2 years now and all this time I thought the state tree was the Dogwood. I have no idea why I thought this except for the reason that they are EXTREMELY popular trees here. Think....every street. Earlier this week I stopped by a friend's house and they had a dogwood tree in their front yard. I've been carrying my camera around with me lately to capture any signs of spring that I can, so I politely informed her before leaving that I would be taking some pictures of her tree. She probably thought I was nuts, but...who cares.

After some early morning research, I have discovered that the beloved dogwood tree is not the state tree. It turns out that our state tree is actually the tulip tree....also known as the yellow poplar.

Psshh! Whatever. The dogwood tree is prettier.

UPDATE: I've been informed that these may not actually be dogwood trees. I was under the impression (via the sacred internet) that there were several types of dogwood trees and that this was one. However, upon even MORE internet searching, these do appear to possibly be Bradford Pear Trees. Does anyone know for sure??

Some That Didn't Make The Cut

For the main reason that I don't want my blog posts to run on and on for miles, I oftentimes skip a lot of photos that I really like because there are so many photos that I really love. But even the liked photos are sometimes so great that I can't believe I left them out.

This week is a little crazy around here. (But really, what week isn't?) As I was digging through some old archives for a project this afternoon, I came across some images that, for one reason or another, just didn't make it to the blog. But, lucky you! I'm going to share a few with you today!

She Loves Her Tiara

On Tuesday, we celebrated Sienna's 3rd birthday by going out to dinner at Fazoli's (her request). As we were eating, she kept asking about her birthday cake. Being the bad mother that I am, I completely failed to remember to make her a birthday cake. I know. Anyway, feeling oh-so-awful and wishing for her to have some cake with her dinner, I decided to approach the manager on duty to ask if they did anything special for birthdays. He so graciously gave us a piece of the most delicious chocolate mousse cake I've ever eaten! We all shared one piece as it was SO rich.

After Fazoli's, our family made a trip to the next door Walmart for the kids to spend their birthday money and gift cards. (Yes, I do realize that Keaton's birthday was 2 months ago, but give me a break. I've been sick!)

I don't know if our children had ever even SEEN the toy section, let alone been allowed to roam free in it! They each picked out a few toys and happily paid for them with their own money. Sienna wanted to share with you her very FAVORITE toy - her new pink princess tiara. However, as I mentioned the other day, she never wants to see a camera when I actually have one out, soooo....I stole her pretty tiara to take pictures of it ALL BY ITSELF. And for the record, it was very cooperative. I know, I win the mean mom award. Again.

Press Printed Books

I think it's very important for my clients to know what options they have available to them when they choose to hire me as a photographer. I want them to be aware of all the tiny details so they are comfortable with the process and know what to expect. After I receive an initial email from a potential client, I always try to reply with details about how and where I shoot, what my prices are for their specific needs, and what products I offer in addition to standard prints.

One of the products I offer to my clients is a press printed book. It's very similar to an album, but is significantly less expensive to order. I find that, while most people would LOVE to have a true album with thick pages and an embossed cover, oftentimes a press printed book is a much better fit for them financially.

The books come in a variety of sizes, ranging from 5x5 to 12x12 and all have hinged, lay-flat pages. Cover options include your choice of black, brown, or red leather OR a custom photo cover.

So, enough talk! You want to see pictures, right? Well, let's get started on that....

Here are a few pictures of a recent wedding book:

These clients chose a custom photo cover.

See how the pages lay flat?

wm e DSC_0403

I always offer to customize the first page of the book with names, dates, etc.

wm e DSC_0400

And I always place a small watermark on the last page so clients remember where to find me later!

Since the pages are coated, they tend to be difficult to photograph well, so instead of showing you actual page spreads from this album, I want to show you some image spreads from an engagement book that I completed this week. Weddings albums are a bit more complex, but in general, I prefer to keep the books to one image per page for the best ability to view each photo's details. (There are NOT white spaces in the middle of each spread - this is just so you can see the distinction of pages.)

I hope these images have given you a good idea of what my press printed books look like. They are very sleek and, on average, arrive in a matter of 2 weeks or less! So consider a press book for your next session!
